'After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.'
John 19:28-30.
Jesus' powerful final words, 'It is Finished!' found only in John's Gospel, is the Greek word 'Tetelestai'. Tetelestai is also a transactional term referring to a debt 'Paid in Full!'
Through His sacrificial death on the cross, Jesus declared a cancellation of the debt of sin owed by humanity to a Righteous God, forever. He has accomplished the work that He was sent to do; 'to seek and to save the lost' (John 17:4).
The cross was an indescribably painful experience for God's beloved Son! This selfless sacrifice of Jesus' crushing victory over the serpent was won when he died which means that His accomplished victory is transferred to the believer. God gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.' (1 Corinthians 15:57).
Not only do we have victory over sin and death, but we also have victory over sickness, demonic spirits and in all areas of our lives. Living daily in victory doesn't mean we are ignorant of Satan but that his power is broken and there is simply nothing to fear anymore when we are walking with and putting our trust in Jesus. James 4:7 urges us to resist the devil and to stand firm against him in faith. Ephesians 6:10-17 reminds us that with the whole armour of God we can stand against the evil one and prevail.
Beloved, today be encouraged to take authority and claim the victory that is rightfully yours in Jesus' name, amen!
