FACING DOWN GOLIATH

When thinking of Goliath,

think of old world scenes.

Of o'le King Saul and Israel,

and of course, the Philistines!

The Israelites heard the giant

in the valley down below.

He was very big and angry,

and they were afraid to show!

Little David tending sheep,

defended them with his life!

He saved his sheep from a lion

and killed a bear outright!

David wondered why his brethren

could not face this giant down.

He took along his sling shot,

And his gift of God's grace, abound!

David had no fear,but faith!

In God, his faith now showed!

He picked up Five smooth stones,

as he ran he let one go!

With God standing on our side

His faith to see us through,

no giant in this world,

could stand against me or you!

The secret to his victory?

David didn't wait!

He spoke his faith in God,

and stormed Goliath's gate!

Would we be like Israel,

perched high, up on a hill,

looking at that bluffing giant,

our spines tingling of a chill?

Maybe like David, having faith in God

start out with five smooth stones,

ending with Goliath's sword,

and a great big bag of bones!

The truth is that Goliath,

comes in many shapes and forms.

He could be a gang of kids,

or a line of deadly storms,

He could be the threat of cancer,

or fear of a report.

He's in the trial you're facing, now,

do you hear him growl and snort?

What would be his form or shape,

and what would be his line?

He thinks because he's big and mean,

he'll win out just fine!

Says Goliath,

"SEND OUT YOUR BEST TO STAND

AGAINST ME ALL ALONE!

COME ON, QUIT WASTING TIME

I'LL RIP HIM BONE FROM BONE!

SEND OUT YOUR BEST TO FACE ME,

AND I'LL PUT HIM TO SHAME,

AND WITH YOUR GOD I TELL YOU,

I WILL DO THE SAME! "

When David faced Goliath,

he was not thinking of that beast,

nor of the fact that he, himself,

of Israel, was the least!

No, his mind steadfastly set,

on YAHWEH and His love,

knowing his salvation,

was firm in God, above!

He picked up 5 Smooth stones,

did what the army wouldn't do.

He ran toward Goliath,

and showed him what his God could do!
